Meaning ‘left’ in French, À Gauche is a blended red wine referring to the left bank of the Gironde Estuary in Bordeaux where Cabernet Sauvignon is the major component in many of their finest wines. The Helderberg and the Upper Blaauwklippen River Valley provided the grapes for this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Complex aromas of fruit and wood spice greet the nose, mostly cherry and black currants with whiffs of cocoa powder, cigar spice and damp forest floor. The palate is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon driven, and has the tannin to match, however gentle Merlot traits soften the edges, giving space for bright Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot vignettes to reveal their light.
